Ninilchik Russian has been spoken continuously in the
village
of Ninilchik, Alaska, since its first permanent settlers
arrived there in
1847. In 2022 there are less than ten speakers of this dialect left. At this website we
celebrate their lives and the unique language heritage they have
maintained.
We have completed some work on a dictionary of Ninilchik
Russian but further work remains to be done. You can access the dictionary from
the Dictionary
link, above. You can also listen to a few recordings
of Ninilchik Russian from the Dictionary
link.
Ninilchik is located on the west
coast
of the Kenai
Peninsula.
It is
100 air miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska.
